Abstract

This paper investigates the enhancement of water shut-off and selective gas/water isolation technologies in horizontal wells of the mature Shurtan gas-condensate field. Due to severe reservoir pressure depletion and premature bottom-water and edge-water breakthrough, horizontal wellbores experience significant liquid loading and hydrocarbon recovery decline. Under the IMRAD framework, the paper addresses the limitations of conventional Portland cement and standard polyacrylamide slurries in horizontal trajectories and proposes a high-temperature organosilicon-nanocellulose crosslinked viscoelastic gel system. Experimental filtration runs on natural carbonate cores under reservoir conditions (115–125 °C and 14–18 MPa) confirmed a selective water shut-off efficiency of 94.6% while preserving effective gas permeability. The implementation of this technology suppresses water coning, restores gas-condensate rates, and extends workover intervals by up to 2.5 times.
