PSYCHOEMOTIONAL STATUS AND DENTAL HEALTH IN ADOLESCENTS

Psychoemotional stress is a systemic factor that significantly modifies the homeostasis of the organs and tissues of the oral cavity. During adolescence, the effects of stressors are considerably intensified due to pubertal changes in the neuroendocrine and reproductive systems, autonomic instability, and the formation of behavioral patterns.
This literature review systematically examines current evidence on the relationship between psychoemotional status and changes in dental hard tissues, periodontal health, and oral mucosal disorders. Particular attention is paid to specific sources of chronic psychoemotional stress during puberty, including academic overload, the consequences of digitalization, and bullying. It is emphasized that the largest number of controversial and least-studied aspects lies within the field of adolescent periodontology, where observational studies predominate, identifying statistical associations without fully elucidating the underlying cause-and-effect mechanisms.
