Fish (Pisces) are a large class of aquatic vertebrates, whose organism is
adapted to the aquatic environment. Representatives of this class are distinguished by the
aerodynamic shape of their bodies, breathing through wounds, a single-stage circulatory
system, and reproduction by laying eggs. Fish are mainly divided into three groups: jawless
fish (Agnatha), cartilaginous fish (Chondrichthyes) and bony fish (Osteichthyes). Each
group has its own morphological and physiological characteristics. As an important part of
the ecological system, fish occupy a central place in the food chain and are of great
importance to mankind as a food and economic resource. Research in this class contributes
to the understanding of current issues related to fish evolution, biological adaptation, and
the maintenance of balance in aquatic ecosystems.
