Abstract

The article examines the structure and art of war of the army of Amir Timur (Tamerlane, 1336–1405). It describes the decimal system of command, cavalry and infantry units, weaponry, logistics, intelligence gathering, and battle formations. Key tactics are analyzed, including flanking maneuvers, feigned retreat, attrition by archery, and psychological pressure. The practical application of these methods is illustrated through the battles of Kunduzcha (1391), the Terek (1395), Delhi (1398), and Ankara (1402). The article also takes into account the differing perspectives of the sources (Shami, Yazdi, Ibn Arabshah, Clavijo) and discrepancies in their accounts.
