The role and tasks of comparison in the fiction of the 19th and 20th
centuries are considered based on the works of Russian classics such as A.S. Pushkin,
N.V. Gogol, F.M. Dostoyevsky, L.N. Tolstoy, A.P. Chekhov, M.A. Bulgakov. The main
functions of comparison are analyzed: visual, emotional, characterological, philosophical,
compositional and rhythmic.
Discusses how simile differs from other tropes such as metaphor, personification, hyperbole, metonymy, synecdoche, and epithet. Examples of
the comparison and analysis of the works of classical creators are given, and the individual
characteristics of the author's style are shown.
A conclusion is made about the
importance of comparison as an important means of expression that helps to create
imagery, emotional impact and depth of the story.
